Turmeric contains the powerful antioxidant curcumin. A placebo controlled clinical trial showed beneficial effects of turmeric in Alzheimer's  patients. Curcumin is strongly anti-inflammatory. In fact, it’s so powerful that it matches the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs, without the side effects. It has been used successfuly to prevent and treat cancer.
